Central Community House 2020 VISTA
The VISTA will work with our Village Central program to increase our capacity to meet needs of primarily low-income senior citizens on the Near East Side of Columbus. They will help us build key partnerships with community, civic, faith-based and other stakeholder organizations to build awareness of Village Central and promote resources throughout the community. To do this, the VISTA will develop marketing strategies, promotional materials, advertisements, apply technology skill sets to increase reach and create efficiencies, and more to both increase senior participation in services and promote volunteer opportunities. Along these lines, the VISTA will take the lead on helping Central Community House recruit, develop relationships with, and utilize a strong pool of volunteers available to help seniors meet needs. Some examples of volunteer opportunities include transporting seniors to medical appointments or the grocery store, or helping them with light household maintenance such as yard work or snow removal. The VISTA will also help develop a schedule of volunteer opportunities, and a database to track engagement, hours served, and needs volunteers have supported. Finally, the VISTA will help research data collection tools to help Central receive feedback from senior participants about their level of confidence for meeting their needs, and help build forms and reports to help organizational leadership improve programming.
