LCCT: Development Associate @ Adult Reading Center

Founded in 1987, the Adult Reading Center continues to increase our efforts to change outcomes and enhance the quality of life for many adult learners throughout Brazoria County and surrounding areas. The Adult Reading Center has a 31-year record of empowering thousands of our neighbors in becoming literate and developing skills to compete in the workforce and exercise the rights and values of productive citizenship. With VISTA support, we can obtain the resources to advance programs that elevate adult learners’ literacy, positively impacting our local and regional economy. The Adult Reading Center is a service hub that employs a comprehensive, student-centered approach that elevates adult learners from the lowest levels of literacy and English speaking to obtaining a High School Equivalency Credential/Certificate, securing their citizenship, earning a living wage, and becoming contributing members of their community. Within the next year, the Adult Reading Center is realigning our core services and programs under three integrated pillars of focus. They include: Literacy Development, Employment Preparation and Citizenship Education/Engagement. These realignments will better position the Adult Reading Center to deepen our services, impact, and reach additional adults by helping them acquire transferable skills required to enter, advance and remain in the workforce. With meaningful partnerships with entities similar to the City of Pearland, the Adult Reading Center is moving the needle progressively in accomplishing our vision of 100% literacy through 100% community engagement. Together, we are growing a literate community and workforce. This work is essential in the economic growth and sustainability of all we serve and positively impacts our region.
