Maggie's Place AmeriCorps Member

Maggie’s Place AmeriCorps are radical change-makers who are committed to immerse their lives in intentional community with pregnant women experiencing homelessness. They live in the homes with the moms and the babies. If serving in a live-out position, they serve at our Family Success Center. Their lives, alongside the lives of the moms, are transformed by the sacrificial love and hope they give. With the tools of trauma-informed care and a dedication to servant leadership, AmeriCorps are on the frontlines of the fight to put an end to ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and break the relentless cycle of poverty. They must be emotionally mature and resilient, empathetic, accepting of diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures, and open to growing through uncomfortable situations. We train Corps members in conflict resolutions, trauma-informed care, best practices for working with vulnerable populations, and emotional de-escalation techniques. AmeriCorps at Maggies' Place will mentor the moms in either a live-in or live-out support position, offering non-judgmental support and assume administrative duties to keep the homes running smoothly.

Member Duties : Most AmeriCorps will be scheduled in their homes for several duty shifts a week, during which they are responsible for providing hospitality to visitors, responding to emergencies, & meeting the needs of the moms. In any given week, AmeriCorps will have a Corps meeting, community night, a training or formation, duty shifts, position responsibilities and 1-2 contact meetings with their contact moms. At Maggie’s Place we often talk about the “duty of the moment”: we expect our staff and AmeriCorps to be open and flexible to rising up to the needs of the moment and serving others, even if this means changing our plans or interrupting our work.AmeriCorps members mentor moms through a structured curriculum called "Seeking Safety", and provide nonjudgemental support and advocacy in any way the mom needs. To apply to Maggie's Place, please fill out our Maggie's Place application in addition to the AmeriCorps application, found here: https://www.maggiesplace.org/how-you-can-help/americorps/.
