Literacy Coalition of Central Texas VISTA Leader

Since 2012, the Literacy Coalition's VISTA program has placed members at public and non-profit organizations across the great state of Texas. From up in Dallas, over to Corpus Christi, down to the Rio Grande Valley, and all over in between, our VISTAs build capacity and expand sustainability to help get things down. Serving directly in their communities give our VISTAs the chance to make roots and get to know the populations they serve. Headquartered in Austin, the home of bats and breakfast tacos, the Literacy Coalition serves children and adults outside of the K-12 system with a variety of programs, from social services to high school equivalency classes to two AmeriCorps programs.

Member Duties : Are you ready to be a leader? We're looking for two VISTA leaders, folks who have previous service experience, to help bring our cohort of members together as a team. As a leader, we'll use your skills and interest to help our program get things done. Our leaders will lead recruitment of members, lead conference calls, create and lead professional development opportunities, host social events, create newsletters and emails, research funding opportunities, assist with reports and data tracking, and play a role in the Literacy Coalition team. You will learn all the ins and outs of working at nonprofit as well as reporting to a government entity, in addition to building and supporting a team on a peer-to-peer level. You'll also get to do some travel across the state on site visits and explore all Texas has to offer.
