Community Team VISTA at the Utah Refugee Services Office

As a division of the Utah Department of Workforce Services, the Utah Refugee Services Office empowers refugees in Utah with the resources needed to integrate into their new community, such as employment and job skills training, and community and family support. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will be based at the Utah Refugee Education and Training Center, located next to the Meadowbrook Trax Station at 3900 South. They will be working with the center’s community team to identify pressing issues in refugee communities and will then establish pathways connecting refugees with providers (both refugee specific and mainstream) who can address these issues and provide most needed resources. The VISTA will build the capacity of refugee community-based organizations to apply for and administers grants. They will improve the effectiveness, scale, and efficiency of community team programming. The ideal candidate will be proficient in or willing to learn grant writing, program design and management, and non-profit administration. They must have excellent people skills and be able to effectively communicate across cultures. Our VISTA can expect to grow professionally while doing valuable work; form meaningful relationships with both refugee and mainstream community members; and receive appreciation, recognition, and support from Refugee Services Office staff. In Salt Lake City, there’s always something to do, and enough variety for everyone. The city offers abundant free events and access to diverse, year-round outdoor recreation.
