LCCT: PelotonU Community Support Coordinator

College wasn’t built for today’s student; the Wall Street Journal reports that over 70% of students are now post-traditional, which means they’re either older than 24, commuting to school, attending part-time, or taking care of a child. Their complex lives don’t fit within the fixed structure of traditional higher ed, and 45 million Americans have tried college and had to stop out. That’s where we come in. PelotonU developed 3 programs to support working adults: our flagship college completion program, our advising program for post-trad students in Austin, and our innovation program to ensure we continue learning and export those lessons across the country. College Completion: We blend the best of online education with the best of in person support to give our students a 5x chance of graduating. We partner with quality, project-based, affordable online degree programs and then layer 2 key pieces of the traditional experience on top. First, we create community through study spaces that are open nights and weekends so students have a sacred place to focus on school without the demands of home or work. Second, we pair every student with a full-time, expert coach, who meets with them weekly to provide personalized, in person guidance around the obstacles to their degree. Advising: Our advising program has three goals: ensure Austin students have access to personalized advice about their best post-secondary options; support community organizations through training in best-practices and analysis of education trends from their alumni; and connecting students with PelotonU when we are the best match. Innovation: In 2019, we will formally launch our Innovation Lab. We will design, conduct and evaluate programmatic experiments that enable us to continue learning new ways to better serve our community. Second, the Lab will exports its learnings to entrepreneurs and educators across the country who are interested in launching programs like ours.

Member Duties : First, the CSC will develop our volunteer tutor program, a system that is highly valued by students but one that we have not had capacity to build on. While there is a nascent program, the CSC will be able to redesign as she sees fit to meet the needs of our students. Second, the CSC will identify common student needs (e.g. access to child care), research, and then recommend local resources PelotonU can leverage to support students. Finally, the CSC will serve as the primary coordinator of the support needs across our 2 sites, 86 hours of operation, 10 staff, and growth in 2019. This job function will maximize efficiency, ensure students have access to needed support, and make recommendations to improve the type or scope of support offered.
