2018 - LRGVDC Economic and Community Development Planner

The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council serves as the regional planning commission, council of governments, and the economic development district for the three-County region of Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy. The lower Rio Grande Valley is one of the fastest growing areas of the country with advances in economic development opportunities such as SpaceX, numerous binational initiatives and the expansions of The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. The community and economic development planner under the AmeriCorps VISTA program will entail regional research, studies and planning associated with economic development and tourism areas of the region. This project is sponsored by the Austin Regional Office (AURO) of the Economic Development Administration (EDA), and will be directly supervised by the [EDD] in [location]. The overall EDA Mission is "to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy."

Member Duties : Performs complex economic development & community planning work. Work involves coordinating internal and external stakeholder research, planning, & studies regarding economic and community programs. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Will also conduct research and studies in relation to community & economic development resources; Assists in the facilitation of stakeholder & committee meetings; Develop & update economic and tourism profiles of the region & community; Evaluate results of economic development studies and offer analyses and recommendations; Identifies opportunities for regional economic development; Prepare & present data and spreadsheets for funding opportunities to support regional economic development; Promote the region to support economic and tourism development opportunities; Communicate and obtain feedback fro, stakeholders; May serve as the point of contact for a program or division.
