New Day Youth & Family Services -- NMCEH
The New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, which acts as the VISTAs Sponsor Agency, was founded in 2000 to lead a comprehensive, coordinated, and strategic response to homelessness. Today the Coalition has some 80 member organizations that provide housing and services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Coalition has made significant strides towards its vision of ending homelessness. The Coalition carries out is mission through advocacy, trainings, and coordinated grant writing and fundraising. We also maintain a database that tracks progress in ending homelessness, and we operate a new coordinated assessment system that helps people experiencing homelessness quickly connect to housing. The mission of New Day Youth & Family Services is to authentically connect young people to safety, community, and themselves New Day was founded in 1976 as a non-profit, community-based agency that was Albuquerque’s first and only shelter for young people who were experiencing homelessness. Over the past 42 years, New Day has built a continuum of care for young people who are marginalized, need additional support or are disconnected in some way. We still have a youth crisis shelter and have added housing and supportive services for transition age young people, a Life Skills Academy, juvenile diversion programming in three counties and most recently a youth drop-in center. The AmeriCorps VISTA at New Day will help build capacity for the agency through assisting in the enhancement of the agency-training plan and supporting in developing data systems and reports.
