Hispanic Affairs Project Communication and Development Asst

Our mission is to provide leadership development, community organizing, and key services for the immigrant integration in western Colorado. We are a regional organization serving the immigrant community in urban and rural communities including Mesa, Delta, Montrose, San Miguel, Ouray and Gunnison counties. HAP has offices in Grand Junction, Gunnison, and the main office located in Montrose, which will be the location for our AmeriCorps VISTA member. Our VISTA member will enjoy the friendly environment among staff, board, and local leaders as well as the opportunity to be creative and take initiative across a variety of projects. More specifically, this position will focus on strengthening visibility and overall communications for the organization. In 2006, first generation immigrant leaders from these communities organized themselves to respond to the demographic transformation and to expand their work to include all people affected by the challenges facing immigrant families, especially the lack of integration, social inequalities and few opportunities for social development. Over the years, HAP has cultivated strong collaborations with local agencies and governmental entities and together we are working for a more inclusive and welcoming community. HAP offers a variety of programs and services to achieve this mission including: 1) Immigration Legal Assistance. 2) Community resource navigation and referrals. 3) Leadership Development through Community Organizing and advocacy. 4) Welcoming Colorado Campaign to promote cultural diversity and mutual understanding. 5) Migrant Outreach/Sheepherder Campaign to improve their work and living conditions. 6) Community education to prevent human trafficking and client services specifically for human traffic victims.
