Kids on Course AmeriCorps Minimum Time Summer Term
 
 
 
Members serve 300 hours (approximately 35-40 hours a week) at their respective sites over the course the summer. Each Minimum Time Kids on Course AmeriCorps will serve at a Kids on Course University summer program site (an elementary school in Cedar Rapids, IA). AmeriCorps members will have the opportunity to recruit volunteers to support the program, provide classroom aid to struggling learners, perform direct tutoring instruction, and lead enrichments designed to teach valuable skills. Members will also help eliminate the distraction of hunger, which can be a barrier to learning, by overseeing the Summer Meals and Summer Backpack Program at their respective sites. Last year, Kids on Course served more than 50,000 meals over the summer.

Member Duties : ¿ Perform in-class tutoring sessions with struggling learners and document these sessions in Microsoft Excel ¿ Lead enrichment programming at their respective site in conjunction with the Kids on Course University summer program ¿ Perform Check and Connect sessions with students to assess behaviors, needs, and participation ¿ Perform scheduled mentoring activities such as lunch buddies ¿ Assist with organizing and implementing large scale events promoting education or engagement ¿ Manage and recruit volunteers to assist in literacy interventions, read to children, pack and distribute weekend food bags, and provide enrichment activities
