UNK-CSP: Addressing the Behavioral Health Needs of Rural NE
 
 
 
UNK-CSP AmeriCorps program is designed to to deliver counseling and treatment services in rural and underserved Nebraska behavioral healthcare non-profit settings (host sites). AmeriCorps members will provide behavioral health and substance abuse screenings, assessments, and treatment services. Members will be responsible for providing services and scheduling clients as well as completing paperwork. The purpose of this project will be to 1) increase access to behavioral healthcare in underserved and rural areas of Nebraska by expanding the number of AmeriCorps members in Nebraska, and 2) provide screening, brief interventions, and referral to substance use and behavioral health treatment in rural and underserved non-profit host site settings as a preventative and treatment service. Graduate level mental health and undergraduate substance abuse counselors will are recruited to serve as AmeriCorps members. Members are trained to provide screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment services (SBIRT). In addition to providing the services, AmeriCorps members will provide training and dissemination of SBIRT to supervisors and colleagues in the non-profit host site facilities for sustainability after the members’ service has been completed. Members will be supervised by an on-site supervisor who will ensure oversight and control for prohibited activities.

Member Duties : Members will provide counseling and assessment services in the host sites. Members will be responsible for doing intakes, assessment screenings, paperwork related to counseling services, making referrals, coordinating care, and scheduling clients. Members will be overseen by a supervisor who will ensure that they are not doing any prohibited activities as outlined in the member contract.
