Energizing Entrepreneurial Communities - WV Hub

In a regional effort to increase locally based entrepreneurship, four West Virginia communities have embarked on this three-year initiative to advance their local economies through small businesses, along with two other teams in Eastern Kentucky and Southeastern Ohio. The effort supports local community teams in connecting local businesses, mapping business resources, and identifying business needs to increase venture success. The program provides technical assistance for businesses, development of a resource network, and provides business and community portfolios to be housed within the community for program sustainability. In addition to community coaching and technical assistance for participating communities, the program celebrates successes of entrepreneurial growth through a regular newsletter telling stories of local entrepreneurial initiatives. The VISTA will develop measures to promote successful implementation of this program for creating (1) better community-based support for entrepreneurs, (2) celebration of their success, (3) capacity to tackle challenges, and (4) a culture where entrepreneurship can flourish. As a result of the VISTA member’s service, these communities will have potential sectors identified and resources to support implementation for needed entrepreneurship growth and development. This is a great way to have impact on the lives of West Virginians by building a thriving entrepreneurial economy.
