AmeriCorps Safe Routes to Health
 
 
 
Safe Routes to Health (SR2H) AmeriCorps Members connect citizens in underserved areas to multigenerational health, wellness, and physical activity resources. SR2H AmeriCorps members train and recruit volunteers to assist with implementing seven program components to comprehensively support health, wellness, and physical activity behaviors. Safe Routes to Health seeks half-time AmeriCorps members to provide 900 hours of service between January 7, 2019 and August 30, 2019 at host sites in the target communities of Benton Harbor, Newaygo, Muskegon Heights, and Sault Ste Marie. (4 half time members will serve in each community). Members will be given the opportunity to have a meaningful year of service in low-income communities; commit to civic engagement through community health, wellness and physical fitness programs; and have the option to participate in professional development activities such as blog writing, social media, program event coordinating, and recruitment opportunities. We are looking for candidates with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Interest and/or experience in health, nutrition, literacy, physical activity, education, parks and recreation, hospitality, and/or event planning; Dedication to community service and ability to work with diverse populations; Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate online systems and email; Planning and time-management skills; Volunteer recruitment and management skills a plus; Strong capacity to be flexible and adaptable to varied circumstances; and access to reliable transportation.

Member Duties : Members will serve at least of 900 hours equating to approximately 26-27 hours a week. Members will plan and implement 7 programmatic components (Food Navigators at Farmers Markets, Fresh Conversations, Health Through Literacy, Cooking Matters at the Store, Get Outside, Rec-Connect, and Local Festivals and Community Events); recruit and train volunteers in programming and activities; participate in AmeriCorps training, events, and community service; and document service activities according to program requirements
