Public Health Solutions AmeriCorps

Public Health Solutions AmeriCorps will provide nutrition education courses to reduce food insecurity and long-term hunger in five counties in Southeast Nebraska. AmeriCorps members will teach life-skills knowledge through a six-week education course to community individuals with a special focus on vulnerable populations in Saline, Fillmore, Jefferson, Thayer and Gage counties. Course education will include budgeting, gardening skills, nutrition and overall health, and local food resource education. PHS AmeriCorps will leverage 18 volunteers through the year who will be engaged in providing extra training and education to individuals attending sessions. Each course will include education about budget management, local healthy food resources, gardening basics, food demo's, and nutrition’s impact on overall health. PHS AmeriCorps believes that all individuals should have access to healthy foods and will serve towards increasing food security for community individuals in our health district.
