*FITVISTA-CRH Housing Opportunity Development VISTA

Cross Roads House, located in Portsmouth, has been providing emergency and transitional shelter to homeless men, women, and children since 1982. Our shelter has beds for 11 families and 54 single adults and is nearly always full or over capacity. Last year our emergency shelter for single adults was over capacity 87% of the time, which means residents sleeping on mattresses on the floor or on cots in rooms other than our designated bedrooms. Going beyond the basics - a warm bed, nourishing meals, and caring assistance delivered by staff - Cross Roads House utilizes its multi-use space to offer on-site services like physical and behavioral health treatment and programs that address the root causes of homelessness and provide the support necessary for future success. Our case managers provide intensive mentoring as our residents move forward to permanent housing and connection to needed community resources. Our aim is to shorten residents’ lengths of stay at the shelter and to decrease the likelihood of recurring instances of homelessness. The CRH Vision: “Breaking the cycle of homelessness”. The largest barrier to ending homelessness is the lack of access to affordable housing. CRH would like to identify and help our residents access all possible opportunities for affordable apartments in our area by establishing robust working partnerships with property owners and managers across the two-county greater Seacoast area. Once our residents are in an apartment, they need support and mentoring to manage and prevent crises and establish stability over time. We have recently started providing community-based post-shelter housing stability case management. We would like to build our capacity to continue these essential homeless prevention services well into the future. The Housing Opportunity Development VISTA will, in conjunction with our Development and Program teams, help us to accomplish these goals.

Member Duties : Together with CRH administrative staff, the Housing Opportunity Development VISTA will: 1) Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to strengthen partnerships with supportive property owners and managers, to recruit new partners and to easily match CRH residents with available apartments; 2) Streamline and set up a system for in-kind Adopt-a Family Back-to-School and Christmas donor drives so that staff other than the Development and Marketing Manager can more easily run these drives, increasing their impact and allowing more time for our Marketing Manager to raise funds during the prime fall/holiday season; and 3)Help identify and access sources of increased giving and new funding and improve volunteer, donor, and landlord partner engagement. Your service schedule will generally occur within usual business hours, M-F, with some earlier or later hours for outreach.
