UWCCR Financial Stability VISTA

Want to make a difference by increasing the number of families and individuals who are financially thriving? If so, the United Way California Capital Region (UWCCR) is the place for you! Join a team that helps families on a path to financial freedom. We do this through our financial stability initiative, which includes financial coaching, matched savings accounts for foster youth, free tax preparation, and a Kindergarten to College (K2C) savings program. Financial Stability work is a key element of our Square One Project, which aims to help as many young people as possible in our region to graduate from high school ready for college or career. Recognizing that the financial health of families has a big influence on these outcomes, Square One takes a two-generation approach by working with both children and adults. Much of our Financial Stability work helps families build long-term financial wellness through opportunities such as free tax preparation and financial coaching, as noted above. Our K2C program reinforces the idea that college is desirable and attainable goal for all students. The United Way's K2C program is active at the Robla School District, a small five-school elementary-only district in North Sacramento that enrolls approximately 300 kindergarten students each year. Approximately 93% of families in this school district qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, meaning household income is low. Moreover, 34% of families in the area experience homelessness. The need is tremendous! We hope you can join us in creating pathways to financial success for families in the Capital Region.
