Genesee County Opioid Abuse Prevention VISTA Program

United Way of Genesee County's mission is to build financial resources that enable investments in education, financial stability, health and basic needs addressing Genesee County and surrounding areas's most pressing challenges while building community-wide vitality. Because of the United Way's position and wide community reach through partnerships, the United Way is ideally suited to spearhead the county's national service response to the opioid epidemic, aligning with local and national priorities. The VISTA project will seek to build capacity for local organizations to address the opioid epidemic. VISTA members will be placed at local organizations that are on the front lines of combating the epidemic, including law enforcement agencies, health care providers, nonprofits and educational institutions. 5 VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as material development, training, community engagement, data and research, and partnership development over the course of a service year.
