COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF SOUTHERN AZ Community Farm Assistant 900 Hour Position Approximately 20 hours/week Service Location: Tucson, AZ Service Dates: September 2018 – July 2019 CONTACT: americorps@arizonaserve.org I. ORGANIZATIONAL PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona (CFBSA) is a nonprofit based in Tucson, Arizona, providing food to 225,000 persons per month across 23,100 square miles encompassing Pima, Cochise, Graham, Greenlee and Santa Cruz counties. Our 130 employees, plus interns and volunteers, provide immediate food crisis relief to children, families, and the elderly, and also help them gain consistent access to sufficient food and climb out of poverty. The CFBSA operates from its main warehouse in Tucson and at branch banks in Marana, Green Valley-Sahuarita, Amado and Nogales. CFBSA also delivers food boxes to 57 other nonprofits throughout five counties. In total, CFBSA has 310 nonprofit partners. Las Milpitas de Cottonwood Community Farm is a project of the CFBSA. Las Milpitas, a six-acre farm located on the banks of the Santa Cruz River, offers garden space to residents. We work directly with the city of Tucson to create an inclusive and participatory community space where residents can grow healthy food for themselves and their families. Gardeners can reclaim their farming heritage and promote food justice and security, environmental stewardship, and self-sufficiency in their communities. CFBSA is seeking a part-time AmeriCorps State member to assist with the Las Milpitas Community Farm gardener engagement and training, community outreach, farm production and activties, and program assessment.
