Lake County Opioid Abuse Prevention VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/cnayh. At Lake Health District, you will be part of a team dedicated to serving a frontier community in Oregon’s high desert. The health district operates a 25-bed acute care critical access hospital, a home health and hospice agency, outpatient clinic services in two states, countywide mental health services, a durable medical equipment outlet, an affiliated 24-bed long-term care and 12-bed assisted living facility, and, starting July 1, the Lake County Public Health Department. Our mission is to care for our community with respect and compassion through excellence and teamwork. We offer programs aimed at preventing diseases from developing and helping community members better manage their own health. We look for creative ways to communicate information and provide vital services for hard-to-reach people, including Lake County’s low-income population. We seek innovative ways to deliver healthcare and are currently serving on a statewide pilot pain management implementation team addressing opioid prescriptions and exploring alternative treatments for chronic pain. Lake County, also known as Oregon’s Outback, is an outdoor recreation paradise with hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, kayaking, camping, and rockhounding opportunities in the summer, and cross-country and downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling in the winter. The small town of Lakeview (population 2,300) boasts a slow-paced lifestyle and friendly community, and city shopping, dining, and entertainment are only a few hours away in Bend or Reno.
