UACED Urban Entrepreneurship VISTA

The University of Alaska Center for Economic Development (CED) is located at the University of Alaska Anchorage campus but represents the entire University of Alaska statewide system. CED has a long history of supporting entrepreneurship and economic development throughout Alaska, dating back to its founding in 1992. Alaska's economy is transforming. Although traditional industries like oil, gas, mining, fishing, and tourism continue to offer jobs to thousands of Alaskans, the long-term vibrancy of our state depends on entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurial ecosystems are a critical component of innovation strategies seeking to improve economies, societies, and institutions. Although venture development and economic development are well-recognized ecosystem areas, entrepreneur development is the heart of any ecosystem's entrepreneurial culture and momentum. Entrepreneur development is the first phase of an ecosystems startup pipeline and emphasizes research, inventions, and ideas, which in turn, become ventures. The environment is ripe for VISTA members to do capacity building and affect real change in Alaskan communities. This position will most likely include some fantastic opportunities to travel to and do capacity building in rural communities in Alaska. Anchorage has been ranked one of the top 100 cities and for a good reason; the community is vibrant with diversity. With over 250 miles of trails in Anchorage and the surrounding areas, the outdoor recreational opportunities and stunning scenery are second to none. Coming to Alaska is an adventure, but beware once you arrive you will never want to leave! The ideal VISTA candidate would need to have the following skills: Interest in economic development Excellent communication skills, written and oral Independence Basic skill level with technology, computer and Internet skills Problem-solving skills Time management Adaptability Flexibility Organization
