Financial Literacy Specialist

World Relief Seattle is the largest refugee resettlement agency in Western Washington and has been serving refugees and other vulnerable immigrants in the Seattle area since 1979. Refugees and immigrants bravely leave behind everything familiar to seek safety, a life free from fear, and the chance for a new start. At World Relief Seattle, we come alongside these new neighbors by providing support and care through their first months and years of transition. This support includes case management, orientation to American culture and systems, job placement assistance, English language classes, skills development classes, housing assistance, immigration legal services, youth programming, mutually-transformative relationships with community volunteers, and more. World Relief Seattle envisions every refugee and vulnerable immigrant welcomed by community, rooted in community, and empowered for community. Our work is informed by the belief that every refugee and vulnerable immigrant has an important place in our community. From the time of arrival to the first job to citizenship and beyond, the World Relief community is committed to serving and being served by this brave and resilient population. AmeriCorps members serving at World Relief Seattle play valuable roles on our English, Employment, Health & Wellness, and Resiliency teams by enhancing our ability to provide robust and tailored services to our participants and to provide expanded support and training to our volunteers. This particular AmeriCorps member will serve alongside our Health & Wellness team as they provide extended and intensive case management to support participants in meeting their goals, overcoming barriers, and achieving self-sufficiency. All AmeriCorps positions are contingent on continued funding from the federal funding source CNCS (AmeriCorps Program).

Member Duties : The Financial Literacy Specialist will supplement and expand the Health and Wellness team’s efforts to encourage financial independence and self-sufficiency among refugees and vulnerable immigrants. This will involve increasing the participants’ understanding of responsible financial planning in the United States while also developing creative methods to adapt existing financial planning materials, including the FDIC Money Smart Program, to the particular needs of low-income refugee families. This member will be responsible for establishing solutions to address both the short-term and long-term challenges facing refugee families in their journeys toward self-sufficiency and financial independence. This will happen through both regular financial literacy group trainings and individualized financial literacy coaching. The member will additionally recruit, train, and manage volunteers, maintain accurate records, measure metrics, and develop relationships with partner organizations.
