Stewards VISTA: St. Croix River Association Riverway
 
 
 
To date, SCRA has had limited exposure to businesses and communities within the watershed. Expanding our reach and establishing solid relationships with new corporate and community partners will lead to new funding opportunities, increased stewardship and civic engagement, and advance SCRA river protection and connection programs. A Community Steward VISTA will allow SCRA to establish a grassroots outreach in an effort to educate and engage those that we are not currently reaching. We currently receive approximately $270,000 in individual and business support. The St. Croix River watershed covers 7,800 square miles in Wisconsin and Minnesota and yet in 2017 we only had 736 households and 80 organizations make donations to us. We have not had the staff capacity to carry out a full time outreach project in order to raise these numbers. The Community Steward VISTA’s work will also help build our database for use in mailings to raise awareness of our work and to lift communities out of poverty. Over the course of three years the goal would be to establish a big enough presence that volunteers would be recruited and trained to take over the project.
