Scoutreach: Building Character with Career Readiness for IWC

Each VISTA will bolster the operations of the Indian Waters Council, BSA, by providing better support to our 2,000 volunteers and help in recruiting more of them. That support will be in the areas of communications and development; program support; and planning and outreach. Each VISTA will be based out of the Columbia, SC office and help provide that support to the field operations in Richland, Calhoun, Kershaw, and Lexington, South Carolina counties with a focus on hard-to-serve communities. Volunteer Relationships: Each VISTA will utilize his/her leadership skills by assisting with the identification, recruitment, support, and recognition of Scouting volunteers at all levels. Communications & Development: Each VISTA will incorporate strong communication skills in aligning council messaging with the needs and interests of our youth members and their families, as well as potential youth members and volunteers and donors. Projects will include ensuring local Cub Scout pack leaders have the marketing resources to conduct strong youth recruitment efforts in underserved communities. External communications will also include resource development and fundraising to support new programming. Planning & Outreach: Each VISTA will put analytical skills to use in building our capacity to track and evaluate geographical areas that the Scouting program is not currently serving, and will assist in the development of strategic outreach plan to expand our services. VISTAs will utilize BSA Market Share resources to identify population and demographic pockets where Scouting does not exist, and help to determine best approaches, resources and people to help meet community needs. Programming: VISTA's will also utilize their personal relationship skills by supporting and communicating program opportunities for our Scouting volunteers and families.
