826NYC Community Engagement Strategist
 
 
 
This position is part of the 826 National Network VISTA Program and is located at 826NYC in Brooklyn, NY. 826NYC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting under-resourced NYC students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Services are structured around our belief that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. Programs include after-school tutoring, evening and weekend workshops, and field trips. VISTA members will have the opportunity to create new systems and enhance current efforts related to volunteer recruitment, training, and retention; support development and marketing activities; and support in-school and on-site programming.

Member Duties : The 826NYC Community Engagement Strategist will help to create the framework for partnerships and training sessions that can be replicated and scaled as 826NYC continues to grow. Activities will include developing volunteer organization partnerships to sustain volunteer corps pipeline; increasing volunteer cohort’s capacity for providing strong programming with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion; improving volunteer recruitment and retention in the South Williamsburg after-school tutoring program; and supporting volunteer recruitment and retention strategies related to the East Harlem program and new in-schools residencies, which will enable 826 to reach more students.
