826 Boston Family, Volunteer & Community Engagement Designer
 
 
 
This position is part of the 826 National Network VISTA Program and is located at 826 Boston in Roxbury, MA. 826 Boston is a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that empowers traditionally underserved students ages 6-18 to find their voices, tell their stories, and gain communication skills to succeed in school and in life. 826 Boston's services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in mind, the organization provides after-school tutoring, field trips, creative writing workshops, in-school tutoring, help for English Language Learners, and in-depth publishing projects. VISTA members will have the opportunity to create new systems and enhance current efforts related to volunteer recruitment, training, and retention; support development and marketing activities; and support in-school and on-site programming.

Member Duties : The 826 Boston Family, Volunteer, and Community Engagement Designer will help to strengthen relationships with students' families, volunteers, and community partners by developing and implementing strategies to promote, monitor and increase participation in 826 Boston's programs, including After-School Tutoring, Field Trips, and Workshops. Activities will include developing a communications system to better engage families; helping to recruit and schedule diverse workshop leaders for February and April workshop weeks; compiling and refining best practices to share with volunteers; and conducting and expanding partnerships with organization such as the Boston Public Library, Egleston Coalition, Boston Neighborhood Network, and Casa Nueva Vida, among others.
