Stewards VISTA: New Bedford Whaling

This VISTA project, in collaboration with the New Bedford Art Museum, aims to create an AIR program at NEBE. This program will consist of four artists, from various artistic disciplines, serving in their capacity as AIR for 3 months. Each month will have a different focus/phase: Creation, Education, and Celebration. Creation – Artist will be given a theme/topic to inspire their creations. These topics, supported by the park’s new Long Range Interpretive Plan (2015), will cover current events and be used to facilitate civic engagement programming during the Celebration month. Education –The AIR will present four workshops to local youth. The workshops will be limited to 12 youth each. Youth will be recruited from the local community. Celebration – Created art, from both the AIR and students, will be put on display in the AIR space in the park education center. Park staff, including the student trainee and the AIR, will present programming to the public based on the topic/theme chosen. Each exhibit will last through the completion of each subsequent AIR’s creation and education phases.
