Families Moving Forward - Workforce Development Associate
 
 
 
Families Moving Forward, located in Durham, NC is a local non-profit organization with a mission to offer a temporary home to families with children in the crisis of homelessness. We work together to help create a path to stability and self-sufficiency through personalized services and ongoing community support. Families Moving Forward provides emergency shelter to 21 families at a time. Families receive case management support and onsite programming is offered weekly for parents and children during their stay in the shelter, and after they have transitioned into the aftercare program. Aftercare case management is offered to all families once they move into permanent housing for 12 months. The VISTA member will work towards the mission of the organization by creating or expanding services offered. The VISTA member will focus on developing systems, communication processes, partnerships and resources to ensure the sustainability and expansion of the programs and services offered to Families Moving Forward’s current and former guests.

Member Duties : This VISTA member will develop sustainable partnerships and programs for the parents at FMF in the area of improved education and employment. These initiatives will benefit parents currently staying at FMF and those in the aftercare program. These systems will enable FMF to provide additional focus on education and employment for homeless or recently homeless families in Durham, with a goal of reducing the cycle of poverty and homelessness. The VISTA activities will include developing outreach strategies to increase local businesses to partner with FMF to offer employment to guests * Research and develop a plan to implement a week-long teen apprenticeship program * Identify and cultivate partnerships with local organizations providing soft-skills training or licensure programs * Work with Dir of Development to identify and apply for funding opportunities for scholarships * Develop quarterly programs for parents related to entrepreneurship and licensure/ certification programs.
