This VISTA project is designed to fight poverty and support TOGETHER!’s mission of advancing the health and wellbeing of all young people by increasing family engagement and volunteer participation in the TOGETHER! afterschool and summer programs. The primary program supported by the VISTA member is the 21st Century Community Learning Center sites at three low income elementary schools in the North Thurston Public School District. Increasing volunteer participation and parent engagement will improve the quality of academic mentoring available to afterschool and summer program participants.

Member Duties : The member will create and implement a community needs assessment at all three Club House program sites. Then provide recommendations from the results of the assessment. The member will also table and network at local high school/college job fairs and other community events to increase number of volunteer applications for Club House afterschool program. In addition to these activities the member will research and develop a volunteer retention plan and provide recommendations. The member is also encouraged to participate in larger agency meetings such as program team and various event planning meetings to become more familiar with the bigger picture of TOGETHER!’s scope of work.
