DC Stoddert Soccer Community Services Coordinator

DC Stoddert Soccer was founded in 1977 to encourage the playing of soccer training and playing among Washington-area youth. The club started with 60 children learning together in small groups at Stoddert Elementary School in the Glover Park neighborhood, from which the club takes its name. Since then, DC Stoddert Soccer has expanded and become the city's largest independent youth sports program. Our mission is to provide a positive, fun, and developmentally appropriate soccer experience and to promote a love of soccer for youth in all of Washington, DC. DC Stoddert Soccer promotes sportsmanship, fair play, community building, and volunteerism among its members. Various soccer leagues and enrichment programs are offered for children year round, and typically serve upwards of 6,700 players, 9,000 parents, 400 teams, and 900 volunteers. In addition to organized leagues, Stoddert Soccer also offers a variety of clinics, camps, and classes for players, referee training, and coaching courses. The Club provides almost $250,000 in fee waivers per year to families and players who cannot afford the registration fees and other costs associated with participation. The VISTA will work with DC Stoddert Soccer’s Recreational Program Director on activities to expand the Club’s physical footprint and the type of programs offered to meet the needs of more kids, particularly those neighborhoods and schools with higher poverty rates.
