18' Summer Dupage Habitat for Humanity Construction Systems
 
 
 
DuPage Habitat is in the midst of substantial growth and development. We are a midsized affiliate serving over 20 families per year and we have an aggressive growth plan that will continue to increase the number of families served throughout the foreseeable future. We are seeking to make a long-term impact on the supply of affordable housing in DuPage County and the lives of Habitat homeowners. This position is responsible for assisting in providing an efficient experience for construction volunteers and sites at DuPage Habitat for Humanity. The Construction System’s Development VISTA’s primary responsibilities will be analyzing, updating, and implementing effective and efficient strategies for the construction site. This position’s secondary responsibility is supporting our organizational plan by assisting us in developing a comprehensive process for our construction system, for both homeownership and homeowner-occupied repair programs. This individual will work under the direction of DuPage Habitat for Humanity’s Director of Construction helping to create workable systems to enhance the construction volunteer experience, which in turn helps us serve local families in the community.

Member Duties : • Evaluate procedures for tracking the construction process from permitting to land development and through construction and inspection. Review resources available from HFHI, other affiliates. Compare findings to current affiliate methods • Research improvements in work site safety and training for volunteers • Research enhancements to processes in order to expand our work into owner-occupied repairs. Identify neighborhoods that could benefit from Neighborhood Revitalization projects • Develop and document a plan to improve or expand construction operations • Develop systems for improvements to the construction process, such as inventory management and construction budgets and schedules, to include software or databases to make the process easy to track and reference • Implement systems for improvements to the safety manuals, site volunteer trainings, emergency plans, etc. Assist in implementing new safety training series for construction staff
