VHCB AmeriCorps - Environmental Educator (Bonny)
 
 
 
The Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center (BEEC) is a member-based nonprofit organization founded in 1991 to develop a more ecologically informed citizenry through education and action in order to enhance and sustain the vitality of southern Vermont's bioregion. To achieve its mission BEEC provides a variety of programs and conservation initiatives to create an involved community of citizen scientists and caring stewards of our land. Education and action are the two vital components of our mission. In the coming year we plan to continue engage in outreach activities that will strengthen our partnerships with other regional organizations and schools to allow us to bring quality environmental education experiences to a broader range of residents, especially our youth. In the action category, we will be recruiting and organizing volunteers to help maintain recreational trails, and assist with our Salamander Brigades. The Environmental Educator and Outreach Coordinator will support these outreach, youth and public programming, and conservation efforts. Position begins March 1st, 2017 and ends August 11th, 2017. Position begins March 2017 and ends August 11th, 2017. This position is Quarter Time: Requires 450 hours of service. Member will receive a living allowance of $4,320 (pre-tax), and an education award of $1,527 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : Essential Functions: • Assist and co-lead environmental education youth programs and camps • Represent BEEC at community service fairs, and other events • Help to publicize events via social media, website and posters • Work with education staff to schedule and develop new programs • Help develop programs aimed at young adolescents . • Assist at public programs and nature walks • Help to recruit and coordinate volunteers for trail work and other BEEC functions and initiatives. • Lead bi monthly hikes for the community on local trails. • Work a varied schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and long (but rewarding) days • Write final report outlining year of service, documenting number of hours spent, number of attendees, etc. For full position description please visit: http://www.vhcb.org/americorps/menu_events/positions/
