Hawkeye Community College - Sector Board Specialist

Identify and leverage community resources to ensure adult education students and job seekers receive services and supports necessary to be successful and break the cycle of poverty. Since 1966, Hawkeye Community College has focused on meeting the needs of the community, providing quality, affordable training for learners at all stages of life. Hawkeye serves more than 25,000 individuals and awards almost 1,500 diplomas and degrees annually. Hawkeye’s VISTA members will build service capacity by creating sustainable strategies and supports to address current barriers to success for the individuals served by adult education and workforce programs. Relationships will be established and/or expanded with contacts in business, economic development, workforce development, education, nonprofit, and the overall community to engage and align stakeholder needs and interests. Waterloo sits along the Cedar River and is known for its diverse population. The growing cities of Waterloo and Cedar Falls offer all the amenities of a big city with a small town feel. Explore Waterloo’s vibrant downtown district featuring award-winning cultural attractions, locally-owned restaurants and an impressive riverside amphitheater. Enjoy festivals and other events such as Friday'loo, My Waterloo Days, Tour d'Loo and the Iowa Irish Festival. Water-slide, go-kart, mini-golf, zip-line, raft and more at Lost Island Water Park. Cedar Valley Nature Trail connects Waterloo with Cedar Rapids and traverses through a collection of rural towns, providing year-round opportunities for hiking, kayaking, bicycling or cross-country skiing. Cedar Valley Trail System is a large acreage with numerous lakes and extensive paved trails. State and County parks offer additional opportunities for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, fishing and camping. Tour award-winning museums, visit the Isle Casino, catch exciting sports teams, immerse in arts and culture and explore more in the surrounding Cedar Valley.
