Community Engagement RISE VISTA - Parents for Public Schools

Parents for Public Schools serves San Francisco’s low-income families and communities of color directly through our parent clubs at school sites, family resource centers, and other community locations. Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco administrates the Parent and Family Leaders Program. This program provides trainings for families to navigate the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and offers an opportunity for parents to become leaders in their community. We communicate with Spanish and Chinese speaking families in person and via phone calls, texting, the WeChat app, our website, instructional videos, and radio shows. This program reaches underserved families in low income communities and provides equitable and accessible services to support non-English speaking communities. Parents attend workshops on conflict resolution, school governance, and school budgets, and learn how to navigate the enrollment process for SFUSD. The program places students from disadvantaged neighborhoods in desirable schools and decreases racial isolation in San Francisco public schools.
