LCCT: VISTA Donor and Volunteer Manager @ Restore Education

The mission of Restore Education is to transform the at-risk youth of San Antonio into successful college and career-ready students, so that they can achieve the future they deserve as self-supporting adults, role models as parents, and contributing members of the community. Postsecondary credentials are the gateway to family-supporting wages and the key to breaking the intergenerational transmission of poverty that is prevalent in San Antonio and South Central Texas. To address this critical issue, Restore Education offers a continuum of services in its three programs, Passport to College, Compass, and Fast Pass. The Passport to College program provides at-risk youth across San Antonio (those who are economically disadvantaged, teen parents or former foster youth) who have dropped out of high school, with an opportunity to earn their GED and prepare for college simultaneously. Students are provided with enriched preparation for their GED, including college test preparation and comprehensive college/workforce connection services. The Compass Program provides GED graduates and first generation college students with ongoing support and guidance as they complete their 2- and 4-year degrees at local colleges. These students have access to a personal mentor dedicated to their success, in addition to a designated study area, located next to the college campus, staffed with tutors and equipped with laptops and textbooks. The Fast Pass program provides free College Readiness workshops for students at low-income high schools. Staff also provides teachers at these high schools with low cost professional development regarding college readiness.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will enrich Restore's program capacity in order to support excellence and growth by providing resources that create community awareness and involvement, volunteer retention and training, and donor retention and recognition. As a result of these advancements, more low-income, minority youth in San Antonio will be provided with educational opportunities to prepare for their GED or college and embark on a career path. The VISTA will serve at our main site. Their goals will include optimizing our utilization of volunteers, including recruitment and retention as well as outreach activities. They will have a goal of increasing funding alongside our Development Director through the implementation of a new donor database and corresponding best practices across direct marketing, events, and grants management. The VISTA will provide support for 60-100 community volunteers. Also, they will provide donor capacity building services resulting in contributions totaling $15,000.
