2018 Interviewer of Job Seekers Experiencing Homelessness

In an atmosphere of dignity and respect, Inspiration Corporation helps people who are affected by homelessness and poverty to improve their lives and increase self-sufficiency through the provision of social services, employment training and placement, and housing. Since 1989, we have assisted thousands of individuals and families affected by homelessness, extreme poverty and recent incarceration each year - serving as a catalyst for self-reliance.Since 2017, Chicago’s assessment process for the needs of homeless individuals has been asking people if they would like to increase their income through work. Combined with questions about the length of homelessness, health, mental health and behavioral health, the information begins to show who might regain housing by connecting to the workforce. However, without further information, it is not possible to direct them to specific programs or identify new services that would meet their needs.The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and able to work well in a team. The candidate should have strong organizational, time-management, writing and analytic skills. The candidate should be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and establish connections quickly in order to get the best possible results from interviews. Skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, will be important.

Member Duties : The VISTA will work in a team to complete the following by August 17, 2018: Attempt contact with approx. 1,200 individuals who expressed interest in work in order to set interviews with required number of people. Conduct 100 structured interviews, by phone or in person. Interviews are expected to last between 15 and 30 minutes. In-person interviews may be completed at “access centers” where homeless people conduct their assessments to be entered on the centralized list of those needing services. Provide service referral information as appropriate to each individual completing an interview and, as resources permit, provide a gift card or equivalent as compensation for time. Complete documentation of each interview conducted including quantitative and qualitative responses, and compile quantitative responses in appropriate electronic forms such as Excel or other appropriate systems. Analyze interview results and prepare a report of the findings.
