2018 Connecting Homelessness Job Seekers to Employment

Chicago Jobs Council’s mission is to move people out of poverty through employment using on-the-ground expertise, advocacy, and capacity building. Our vision is that all people, regardless of where they start or where they’ve been, can access employment as a pathway out of poverty. In 2017, Chicago’s homeless Continuum of Care implemented a new coordinated entry assessment that, for the first time, asks if individuals would like to increase their income through work. Over sixty-five percent of individuals answer yes. The Chicago Jobs Council has been contacting people interested in employment to provide them with basic information about workforce services. The project will develop improved information resources through research on workforce programs and by piloting additional ways to distribute information to both frontline staff and job seekers. The ideal candidate is a curious, self-starter with an interest in qualitative research and is comfortable talking to a wide range of individuals—from job seekers, to program managers to frontline staff. The candidate will also be a strong writer and have experience distilling complex information into shorter forms and into different formats for presentation. Experience with Microsoft Office, G Suite, infographic tools (Canva, Piktochart, etc) and basic presentation tools (PowerPoint) are important.
