CFGD: Philanthropy Program Assistant VISTA

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD), located in Dubuque, Iowa, serves a seven county are in northeast Iowa. The rural service area of CFGD, nearly 8,000 children are currently living at or below poverty, 58 percent of children rely on free and reduced lunch programs which is the 4th highest in the state. The list doesn’t stop there; most small towns in the rural service area face serious, chronic challenges: empty buildings, declining school enrollment, too few housing options and recreational opportunities, and a deficiency of technical and professional entry-level jobs. The VISTA will increase public awareness and understanding of community foundations and their impact, work with community foundation volunteers to tell the story of grants, endowments, the Iowa Transfer of Wealth study, and growing endowment funds for community causes. The VISTA will promote the creation of endowment funds (principal is held in perpetuity and is invested to provide regular, predictable income for a specified charitable purpose). The VISTA will provide tools, resources and support to help local communities capture charitable endowment dollars that will forever support nonprofit organizations considering the projected transfer of wealth in Iowa. The VISTA will also strengthen donor and volunteer relationships to build lasting relationships and support long-term change through endowment building, estate planning, and other donor relations efforts.
