Family Mobility Coordinator

Located in Boston’s historic South End, United South End Settlements (USES) has identified a renewed direction and mission: to harness the power of our diverse community to disrupt the cycle of poverty for children and their families. We believe that as families stabilize and take advantage of opportunities for advancement, their children are better able to develop the skills needed for educational and workplace success, which will ultimately allow them to break the poverty cycle. Our program model is comprehensive, multi-dimensional, and supports the whole family: -We provide children with quality education and enrichment opportunities through early childhood education, after school programming, and a summer sleepaway camp in New Hampshire. -We work with parents and caregivers to develop their capacity to reach goals through one-on-one coaching, and help them move towards economic stability through job training and income supports screenings. This VISTA’s role is two-fold: firstly, they will complete the development of our income supports program, a vital part of our renewed direction and vision for families to move towards economic mobility. Secondly, they will pilot USES’s whole family/parent engagement efforts as we move towards an intentionally Two-Generational model, recognizing that when parents are engaged and have the resources to invest in their children, they and their children are more likely to develop the skills they need to succeed and break the cycle of poverty. Applicants should have strong written and oral communication, interpersonal skills, organizational, and time management skills, as well as an ability to work as a team and independently. They should also be able to take initiative and demonstrate a commitment to USES’s mission and core values. Service begins July 9, 2018. To learn more about this position, contact Melody Valdes, Coaching Coordinator, at mvaldes@uses.org or 617-375-8144.
