Member Duties : The increase of evidence-based programs and drug treatment courts across the nation has resulted in a dramatic transformation of the role played by defense counsel. The Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office is seeking a VISTA member to research and evaluate public defender participation in evidence-based programs across Wisconsin and develop an outline of best practices and quality indicators for public defenders in treatment court and collaborative justice project settings. In his/her research, the VISTA member will identify opportunities for improvement, and assess whether successful programs could be replicated in more high need areas, including northern and rural Wisconsin.
A successful candidate will also have experience in program evaluation, project management, and an understanding of criminal law.
