Strong City/Bedtime in a Box: Communications VISTA

This position is sponsored by Strong City Baltimore in Baltimore, MD; and the VISTA member will serve with the Bedtime in a Box program, which is an initiative of Improving Education in Baltimore, MD. Strong City sponsors 30 VISTA projects at nonprofit, government, and community organizations throughout Baltimore City and Maryland. Established in 1969 to help neighborhoods become safer, better places to live, Strong City's mission is to build and strengthen neighborhoods and people. Strong City will provide support to Improving Education and the VISTA member throughout the year, including recruitment, training, resources, and professional development opportunities, and meetings. Bedtime in a Box, a project of Improving Education that began in 2015, is a creative but simple solution that supports the health and educational development of children ages 0-5, prior to entering school, by providing families with the materials, tools, and training they need to enact a comprehensive bedtime routine. The VISTA member will build community knowledge/awareness about Bedtime in a Box through the collection of qualitative data, enhancement of website/social media pages, and creation/enhancement of communications/print materials.

Member Duties : The goal of this project is to significantly increase the amount and quality of reading each night, and support families to create healthy routines around bedtime. The VISTA will: 1) Develop infrastructure, processes, and protocols to collect data and gain feedback from families through community awareness and engagement 2) Expand and strengthen partnerships through enhancement of communication materials, social media/website engagement 3) Develop resources to be shared through social media platforms
