20-21-Gonzaga Univ-Waste Reduction Coordinator
This AmeriCorps project's process and outcomes are to educate students, staff, and faculty about what is recyclable here in Spokane and present them with a broader view of the recycling lifecycle, at least locally, so constituents understand the social, economic, and environmental impacts that coincide with proper recycling. The project will also contribute to institutional and local government waste-reduction and recycling goals. The County has an impending target to divert 65% of waste by 2020 as identified in its most recent Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan approved by the Washington State Department of Ecology. Because of the nature of higher education student population turn-over, part of this project is to establish succession plans for recycling education and outreach within existing departments and student clubs so that education and outreach will continue past the conclusion of this AmeriCorps project. This is a 10.5 month position with alternative start and end dates. There are 4 positions available with Gonzaga University and they are open until filled. Stipend is provided and an education award is available for members who successfully complete their service term.
