2018-2019 Communications and Development VISTA

Our state is dealing with housing insecurity for homeowners and stretched demand for rental housing. Housing Action Illinois fights to expand and protect affordable housing throughout the state; we unite, educate and activate 160+ member organizations in working to alleviate poverty through housing-related services. Our VISTA will maintain the systems put in place by previous VISTA members, such as communications with key stakeholders, capacity-building and outreach initiatives, and resource diversification. They will develop plans for Housing Action to sustain these projects without the assistance of VISTA members after this term of service ends, since this position is the third year of the VISTA project.Our ideal candidate would be someone thoughtful and passionate about translating the world of housing into compelling stories, facts, and ideas that the general public can understand. It is essential for our VISTA to be detail-oriented and a creative problem solver with the ability to balance a variety of independent and collaborative projects. We prefer candidates with strong writing skills and office experience.

Member Duties : Develop communications materials (print and digital) that reinforce member engagement and donor relationships and heighten public awareness of affordable housing issues. Develop member outreach, cultivation, and education strategies. Work with Executive Director, Board, and staff to expand and diversify funding sources. Assist staff in learning and navigating technology and maintaining/improving database procedures.
