2018 Hesed House PADS AM Daytime Drop-In Center VISTA

Hesed House's mission is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless and give people the chance to hope again. Our organization is dedicated to alleviating the plight of homeless persons by providing food, shelter and the services needed to return to independent living. Our Daytime Drop-in Center provides a place of food, shelter, dignity and positive choices for guests with all different levels of functionality. The VISTA will assist in engaging guests where they are at, from helping those with an overnight shift utilize the day program as a place of rest, food and restoration so they can keep their job, to developing relationships and providing positive choices for people with more obstacles to overcome. Part of this relationship building and community for people struggling with mental health or lack of positive relationships, is providing socialization and community opportunities which help with building confidence, self-worth and ultimately empowerment. The VISTA will work in our PADS AM Daytime Drop-in Center as a special events coordinator, learning and working in every phase of the program as well as helping set up and run special events for our guests young and old either on-site or in the community. The VISTA will also help staff and volunteers with basic case management services, as needed. The VISTA will organize 3-5 total special events for PADS AM programs. We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter and team player, capable of working with staff to engage with our guests and help build relationships and paths to services that will help people attain housing. The VISTA will do this by working with staff to help plan some events as well as help with case management as needed. Previous experience with at-risk populations preferred, but not required.
