* PRC – No Kid Hungry in Miles City

In Montana, one in five children struggle with hunger. PRC VISTAs serving with Montana No Kid Hungry are dedicated to ending child hunger by improving food access through participation in school meal programs. These efforts ensure that students remain healthy and ready to learn. PRC VISTAs serving with Montana No Kid Hungry partner with school districts—in this case, Miles City School District—to develop the capacity to increase school breakfast and summer meal programs along with other food access projects. Miles City, located amidst the plains and badlands of Eastern Montana, is a historic, rural, “Western” town that has played an important economic role as a hub for livestock trading and agriculture. However, many families struggle and their children depend on school meal programs to get by. To end child hunger, we need you to come out to Eastern Montana to serve in Miles City!

Member Duties : The overall goal of this project is to increase food access for low-income students in Miles City School District by expanding school breakfast and summer meal programs along with other food access projects. To do this, the VISTA will: conduct assessments to understand the barriers preventing participation in school meal programs; develop a strategic plan to implement a “Breakfast after the Bell” model in certain schools; create a strategic plan and expand summer meal programs; and construct a strategic plan with local organization to introduce the “The Family Dinner Project.” To ensure the success and sustainability of the project, the VISTA will work collaboratively with staff, teachers, students, and community partners within the school district.
