The MAPS Media Institute is committed to providing a rigorous, hands-on program designed to instill a lifelong passion for learning and to equip students with the skills and confidence for academic, social and professional success. Our unique curriculum incorporates science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM) in all of our courses. Fostering creativity and building communication skills is part of what led to MAPS being honored as one of the “Top 50” after-school programs in the U.S. by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities. According to the 2017 American Community Survey data, only 26% of those living in Ravalli County have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher. The US Census shows that 40% of Americans have finished an Associate’s Degree or above. Additionally, 9% of people aged 25 years or older in Ravalli County have not attended or have dropped out of high school and 41% of the Ravalli County population over the age of 25 has a high school diploma or less. Ravalli County Schools: Hamilton High School, Hamilton Middle School, Corvallis High School, Corvallis Middle School, Victor School, and Darby High School Lake County Schools: Arlee High School, Ronan High School, Ronan Middle School, St. Ignatius High School, and Polson High School Higher Education Institutions: Salish Kootenai College, Bitterroot College, and University of Montana. Member Duties : The Leader will serve underserved 8th - 12th grade students in rural Montana with academic mentoring and college access activities. MAPS Works projects is to strengthen and connect our community through media arts. The member will mentor and support at least 35 underserved, rural students by developing one-on-one and group mentoring opportunities. They will conduct workshops on how to write compelling personal statements, provide information about dual enrollment and AP classes, arrange college representatives to present to MAPS students, create resources for students to reference and use as they visit and prepare for college and offer scholarship and financial aid resource information. They will develop an alumni network to track progress and success stories. The leader will support and assist MAPS Media Institute after-school programming for at least 100 youth and provide outreach to schools to provide information about MAPS programming to increase enrollment and awareness.
