VYT-Rural Arts Collaborative
PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: SITE: Based in Greensboro, VT, the Rural Arts Collaborative’s mission is to cultivate lifelong learning & exploration to enrich community, schools, and economy through creativity, conversation, and collaboration. Activities include enrichment programs for youth in school & after school and workshops and events for adults & seniors. Our programs support the wellbeing & resilience of our community. The VISTA promotes our mission by conducting outreach to build community connections, mentorship opportunities, workforce skills, technical assistance training, and systems that provide rural youth with access to expanded learning opportunities. The VISTA enhances the SPARK project by coordinating mentorships, entrepreneurship programs, and workshops around financial literacy; thus, creating opportunities for youth to thrive & transcend poverty. COVID-19: the pandemic reduced access to many services & enrichment activities, and the lack of social interaction in our rural community has been especially detrimental to young people. Through fundraising the VISTA increases our capacity to run programs & offer services to those in the most need. The VISTA develops pandemic-friendly outreach systems to determine community needs & barriers to participation and organizes & manages an outreach & listening campaign to identify beneficiaries, resource needs, and priorities for our new community space.
