University of Memphis VISTA Project
 
 
 
The University of Memphis is proud to announce that we are recruiting the third class of AmeriCorps VISTA members to our campus for the 2021-2022 service year. Members will build capacity in our community partner organizations and work to provide opportunities, eliminate barriers, and create systems to assist community members to increase access to healthy food and education in the Memphis community. AmeriCorps VISTA members will have the unique opportunity to serve at their assigned community organization and on campus at the University of Memphis building stronger connections between students and service to alleviate food security and educational issues in our city. VISTA members will serve with the University of Memphis Early Learning and Research Center, University of Memphis Campus School, University of Memphis Middle School, University of Memphis Tiger Pantry and Garden, University of Memphis Law School, and local non-profit the Carpenter Art Garden.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps VISTA members will have the opportunity to serve at their assigned community organization and on campus at the University of Memphis building stronger connections between students and service to alleviate food security and educational issues in our city. Duties: • Assess community and agency needs and identify assets • Recruit and train volunteers, especially college student volunteers • Develop systems for volunteer coordination • Create policies and procedures that increase agency effectiveness • Seek new resources through fund-raising and grant-writing • Create publicity and outreach materials • Coordinate afterschool awareness events and national day of service events • Promote AmeriCorps, VISTA, and national service
