2018 Hesed House Computer Program Designer Summer VISTA

Hesed House's mission is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless and give people the chance to hope again. Hesed House is a national model for ending homelessness - one person, one family at a time. It is the culmination of nearly three decades of strategic evolution from a formerly acceptable model of "eats and sheets" to a Comprehensive Homeless Resource Center - a campus of centralized highly skilled professionals collaborating to provide the tools necessary to help individuals and families break free of the shackles binding them to homelessness. The VISTA Summer Associate will create the program by working with volunteers and staff. The program will include all current clothes closet stipulations and quantity restrictions per article of clothing, and provide real-time updates for volunteers and staff of clothing received. The program will utilize current ID barcodes that each guest has, and help staff track clothing given as outcomes in case management software, which is currently tracked very little. We need a computer program that will replace the current card system in the clothes closet, and provide real-time updates to staff and volunteers, so that we can provide equal distribution of clothing to our guests, and more easily track what is given out for outcome reports. We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter and team player, with knowledge of or experience in writing database programs. The ideal candidate has a passion for solving problems by working with stakeholders to improve overall systems.
