NYC VISTA - Youth Engagement VISTA

The NYC Department of Social Services (DSS), which embodies the Human Resource Administration(HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential social service benefits, such a Temporary Cash Assistance. As the largest local social services agency in the country, HRA helps over 3 million New Yorkers through the administration of more than 12 major public assistance programs, with more than 14,000 employees and an operating budget of $9.7 billion. HRA has a wide array of employment programs designed to provide resources and help individual access services to attain economic self-sufficiency and wellbeing. HRA joins the citywide mission to reform policies and procedures to more effectively fight poverty and income inequality. In doing so, HRA is implementing a thorough and comprehensive approach to employment services that more fully recognizes the needs of individual clients in order to more effectively help each of them enter or return to the workforce and build sustainable careers. A component of this progression is to implement financial empowerment services in HRA programming. THE NYC VISTA member will work alongside staff of the Family Independence Administration (FIA) within the Office of Youth Engagement (OYE). The OYE is responsible for providing support to programs that serve low-income youth aged 16-24 to attain education, training, or employment opportunities with the goal of connecting them to long-term sustainable employment or education pathways. Through a variety of initiatives and programs, the OYE seeks to strengthen provider programs that serve youth but opportunities to build cultural competence and programing steeped in youth development principles.
