US2020/Project Exploration

Project Exploration works to ensure that youth from communities traditionally overlooked by the sciences have access to STEM role models and high-quality science experiences. Our model for out-of-school time programs includes: - Inquiry-based programming that connects to students’ lived experiences, curiosity, and local community. - Developing self-confidence and identity in science, and improving STEM literacy and critical skills, such as collaboration, communication, and leadership. - Opportunities to work alongside STEM professionals and mentors, trained to do youth outreach. We are also the backbone organization for the Chicago STEM Pathways Cooperative, a collaborative which convenes stakeholders across Chicago’s STEM landscape to address inequities across the learning continuum. We convene approximately 150 stakeholders annually, including Chicago Public Schools, and are led by a steering committee of 15 STEM education leaders.
